The book uses the real situations to teach concepts because it recognises
that children learn best through concrete experiences.
It further develops the learner’s abilities to critically understand and
analyse these issues in keeping with the tenets of the Indian Constitution
The index is as follows:
Chapter 1: On Equality : Discusses though the Constitution of India guarantees equality to all
citizens, despite this, the daily lives of people in India are far from equal.
It also states the steps taken by the government.
Chapter 3: How the State Government Works :Discusses how the government functions, and discusses ideas of
representation, accountability and public welfare.
Chapter 9: Struggles for Equality: This chapter discusses about some of
the ways in which people have struggled against inequality.
