Kanika Goyal: Rank 9
Early Aspirations
Kanika Goyal, a native
of Kaithal’s Model Town in Haryana, embarked on her UPSC journey in Class 7
with a determined goal to pass the examination. Little did she know that after
a decade of hard work, she would achieve her dream by securing the 9th rank in
the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services examination.
Academic Excellence
Kanika's journey was
marked by academic excellence from the start. In Class 10, she attained a
perfect 10 CGPA, showcasing her early commitment to her studies. Continuing her
stellar performance, she secured the second rank as the state topper in
Humanities during her Class 12.
College Years
After completing her
school education, Kanika pursued Political Science (Hons) at Lady Shri Ram
College For Women, Delhi University. Her academic foundation laid the
groundwork for her future aspirations in the field of civil services.
Parental Support: A Pillar of Strength
Throughout her ten-year
journey, Kanika acknowledges the unwavering support of her parents. They served
as her constant pillars of strength, encouraging her to pursue her dream and
assuring her that success was within reach.
"My parents always
supported me. They told me that I could do it," says Kanika, reflecting on
the crucial role her family played in her success.
Overcoming Setbacks
In 2022, Kanika faced a
setback as she did not clear the UPSC examination on her first attempt.
However, undeterred by this setback, she remained steadfast in her
determination and approached the challenge with resilience.
Balancing Act: Study and Self-Care
Kanika emphasizes the
significance of maintaining a balance between academic pursuits and personal
well-being. She strategically divided her time, ensuring dedicated periods for studying
while also prioritizing essential aspects of self-care.
A balance between studying and relaxing is
important," advises Kanika, underscoring the need for a holistic approach to exam
preparation.
Words of Wisdom
In offering advice to
aspiring UPSC candidates, Kanika stresses the importance of constant and smart
work. She advocates for maintaining a strong work ethic and cultivating the
resilience to navigate setbacks.
"Keep working hard, do smart work. If you
have the zeal, you will surely make it. Even if you have a setback at any
stage, whether it is prelims, mains, or the interview, take it as a step and
move forward. You will clear next time for sure," affirms Kanika, leaving a motivational message for those on a
similar journey.
