Description: "Explore the role of the District Mineral
Foundation in improving healthcare and socio-economic conditions in
mining-affected regions, as part of the Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan
Yojana (PMKKKY)."
The Mines and Minerals (Development and
Regulation) (MMDR) Act, 1957 provides for the establishment of a District Mineral
Foundation (DMF) in each district affected by mining-related operations.
District Mineral Foundation (DMF) is a trust
set up as a non-profit body in those districts affected by the mining works. It
is required to work for the interest and benefit of persons and areas affected
by mining-related operations. It is funded through contributions from
miners.
The operation of DMFs falls under the jurisdiction of the relevant State Government. The fund for DMF is collected at the district level. In all states' DMF rules, some high-priority areas are identified that are entitled to get at least 60 percent of the DMF fund. The usage of the fund includes important and critical concerns such as healthcare. Thus, DMF funds can be utilised to increase and improve healthcare facilities, screening and testing facilities, and other required resources.
The objective of this programme is to
work for the welfare of people and areas affected by mining-related operations
with the help of the funds generated by DMFs.
